Cox Lodge, Assington, Colchester

Cox Lodge is one of six, two-bedroom luxury lodges located in the outstanding rural scenery near Stoke by Nayland in Suffolk. Bright, spacious and excellently finished, the lodges really make the most of their lovely surroundings and are ideal for all kinds of break, from romantic retreats to adventurous family holidays.

The lodge benefits from a large, open-plan living area with huge floor-to-ceiling windows at one end, and patio doors that lead out onto a verandah. It’s a great sun trap, and makes a perfect location for al fresco drinks on long summer evenings, or an early morning coffee in the sun as you plan the day’s activities.

Up to ten lodges can be booked together, offering a total of 16 double en suite bedrooms for groups of up to 32. All the lodges are within a five minute drive of the outstanding facilities at the Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa.

Cox Lodge accommodation

The lodge is comprised of two double bedrooms (with zip/link beds that can be made into twin beds as required). Each room has its own en-suite, which serves to enhance the luxury of your stay.

The gorgeous living area is great and spacious. Large windows mean that guests can enjoy the view at any time of year, and doors lead onto a stunning terrace, where you can bask in the sun and admire the spectacular views, or enjoy the tranquil atmosphere on a balmy summer evening.

General amenities include: an electric effect fire and underfloor heating throughout. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and four-ring induction hob, a microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

The lodges all have state-of-the-art flat screen televisions with a Blu-Ray DVD player, surround sound and ipod dock, as well as Wi-Fi, so there is plenty of entertainment available for all the family to enjoy.

There are the most incredible facilities right on the doorstep of the lodge. Guests have complimentary access to an indoor, heated swimming pool, sanarium, steam room, Jacuzzi and Technogym. As well as an on site spa and two championship golf courses (additional charges will apply for these). Guests can also enjoy the fabulous two AA Rosette restaurant, bars, clubhouse restaurant, on site shops, fishing, and covered driving range.

Guests are even treated to their own hamper on arrival, offering little extras and luxuries that add to the welcoming nature of their stay.

Please note: a travel cot and high chair are available, for which additional charges may apply. There is ample, convenient on site parking. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed. A minimum of a two night stay must be booked. A porter is on call 24/7 to transport guests to and from the spa/golf/dining facilities.

Cox Lodge surrounding area

There are so many activities and facilities on site that guests may well struggle to venture away from the comfort of their luxurious lodge. However, the surrounding area offers plenty of entertainment and sights to discover.

The whole region is rich in history, and guests can learn about its fascinating heritage with a visit to Colchester Castle and Zoo, Tudor Lavenham and Constable’s Dedham and Flatford Mill.

Orford is a historic town with a castle, a pretty quay and a great selection of traditional friendly pubs to visit. The Crown and Castle Pub and Butley Orford Oysterage both serve delicious local delicacies. Catch a glimpse of local life on a boat trip from the pier, where you can learn all about the history of the town and bring in the lobster pots and if the tide is in. There is also a big castle at Framlingham, and Leighton Abbey is a stunning site that dates all the way back to 1363.

The area is a haven for adventurous guests, with a vast array of sport and activities on offer. Hire a bicycle locally and take on the rolling hills, or enjoy one of the hundreds of walking trails on Dunwich Heath and Minsmere. For a fantastic family trip, head to Thorpeness for a day on the Meare, where you can hire rowing boats and canoes and discover all the Peter Pan themed landings and tiny islands, and see the crocodiles at the boathouse!

And when you’re exhausted by all the excitement and action, you can return to the luxurious comfort of the spectacular cox lodge.
